Rule one is when Helen Mirren is in a film, it is a film worth experiencing. She has done many wonderful films including The Queen.
Her latest cinematic success is The One Hundred Foot Journey. This is a delightful culinary and film experience about an Indian family whose restaurant is burned to the ground and they leave India for France.
Their vehicle breaks down outside a charming French village and the family proceeds to open an Indian restaurant. The problem is that an elegant French restaurant is 100 feet across the road and is owned by Helen Mirren who thumbs her nose at the unbecoming nature of the new restaurant in the neighborhood.
The film has a wonderful sub plot of melding 2 cultures together and how people from different national backgrounds can find a connection and a rewarding relationship.
In fact, the eldest son of the Indian parents has a magical ability as a chef. Ultimately, Helen Mirren is won over and he becomes her head chef at the exquisite French restaurant. He does so well that he is recruited by a top restaurant in Paris where he wins much public notoriety.
Is that enough? Perhaps not, since he met a French chef working for Helen Mirren who he falls for completely.
While all this is going on, the restaurants are trying to win as many Michelin stars as they can to become recognized as the most prestigious in France.
How do the career, love relationship, and Michelin ratings all work out? Your palate will enjoy the delicacies in the film when you get the answers. Have a wonderful and joyous adventure.
